Hello! I’m Mary Ellen and will be available should you need anything during your stay at either Seanook or Paradise Cottage. We live on-site at our Shop/Studio, which is located diagonally up the hill and across the street from Seanook, and right next door to Paradise Cottage.
We plan to greet you upon your arrival and will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the cottage or the area. You’ll also have our phone number in case anything comes up. During the summer, we may occasionally use Seanook’s float or tend the garden. Otherwise, we’ll leave you to enjoy your stay in peace.
Mary Ellen grew up in Massachusetts but was fortunate to spend three idyllic months each summer right here at Seanook on Linekin Bay. Starting at the age of five, she played on the beach almost daily.
Low tide was the most exciting time — a chance to discover what critters lingered at the water’s edge: scurrying hermit crabs, squirting razor clams, limpets and boat shells, and maybe even a sea urchin or starfish.
As an adult, Mary Ellen remains fascinated by the minute details of the organisms that live here, while also developing a deeper appreciation for the bigger picture: the variety of colors in land and water, the ever-changing moods of the bay, and the effects of the seasons.
Along with fond family memories, she cherishes more recent moments as well: sitting with her young family on the Wine and Cheese deck, engulfed in summer fog and mesmerized by osprey diving for fish; relaxing in the sunroom with her husband, Ron, for hours on a winter morning, marveling at the magic of sea smoke; or simply watching the ice floats drift past the dock pilings on their way to open water.
It was also her mother’s dream to pass along this quiet place—with its close connection to nature—for future generations to enjoy. Mary Ellen’s current life goal is to make that dream a reality.
Research shows that even a picture of water and nature can calm the soul. If that’s true, isn’t it even better to be fully immersed in the experience? Call today to reserve your stay!
