SEANOOK was built on the beach! It is tucked in next to a rocky point with the ocean as close

as it can get. Originally serving as an annex to the East Boothbay General Store, it was used by the owner to store boats underneath and to sell gas, food, and supplies to local lobstermen. This rare, grandfathered proximity to the water is what makes Seanook so special, as federal guidelines require a deep setback for new

structures. Not only can you look straight down into the water from the windows and decks on two sides, but at night the soothing sounds of its lapping are delightful for sleeping. The calm and the storms alike are all right there. With the floor to ceiling windows, you are front and center to nature and wildlife when you stay at Seanook!  Relax and breath in the fresh, clean, and invigorating salty sea breeze!

Upstairs you will enjoy the large deck running on two sides

of the house. On the first floor are two small decks; one sheltered from the north wind opens onto the front lawn, and the other overlooking the bay to the west where it is sheltered from the predominant southwest wind. The fourth deck is at the level of the basement, very close to high tide.  A picnic table and gas grill are there.

Seanook can be heated by a gas-fired Rinnais. They are easily operated using the keypad with an on/off button and up and down arrows for temperature.  The gas fireplace/stove in the master bedroom is controlled by a thermostat on the wall by the entry door.

Best of all in winter is the ambiance of our wood-burning fireplace/stove insert in the living room. You must use the fan underneath, to exhaust BTU’s from the firewood, which we provide.

Seanok’s sunroom views

We trust that you will use common sense and close the doors and windows if you are going to use heat. However, on a sunny afternoon, even in the coldest part of winter, you will have to dial the heat back because of the wonderful passive solar gain from the southwest-facing floor-to-ceiling glass.

Also downstairs there is a sunroom with fantastic views and proximity to the bay, rocking chairs, and a chair-and-a-half sofa.  The downstairs bathroom has a glass vessel sink and large shower.  Below is a laundry room with a view. An iron and ironing board are provided.

High-speed internet can be accessed from the dining room first and then hopefully throughout the house.

For summer cool Seanook is located in a natural wind tunnel that funnels the prevailing southwest sea breeze through the house.  Most days, if you open the sliding glass door downstairs, and windows on the north side of the house upstairs, natural circulation occurs.  Fans are provided in case of still days.  We do not have air conditioning because we rarely need it!  Part of the summer experience is to have all doors and windows open and be in tune with the outside.  If you are too hot, you can always fall in the ocean!

The water can be accessed either from the float, or by wading in on the front beach,

or swimming in the cove from the north pebble beach, which is shared with guests at Paradise Cottage.

Seanook’s kitchen is well equipped and everything is in view & easy to find

The full kitchen encourages cooking.  It has lots of counter space, a Samsung bottom-freezer refrigerator, a GE Profile gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, and of course a

and dishes, including two drip coffee pots, for your cooking needs. It has many open shelves, so things are easy to find. A repeat visitor to Seanook loves this kitchen both because of the views in three directions and because she can take just a couple of steps and reach everything.  You are welcome to use whatever spices and staples you find on the shelves.  Our Hannaford groceries does a good job with organics.   The marvelous Pinkham’s Gourmet Market specializes in Seafood.  Add in Brown’s Farm Stand and Atlantic Edge Lobsters and you have all the makings for delectable meals. If you live somewhere else in Maine, in Vermont or New Hampshire, come for a change of scene. Snuggle in and enjoy in a cottage by the sea, our cabin rental in Maine!  Our summertime Farmer’s Market is on Thursdays from 9 until noon.

Windows in the master bedroom, looming across Linekin Bay

For your lodging upstairs at Seanook you will find three bedrooms and another bathroom with two sinks and a shower. The Master Bedroom features spectacular windows that wrap Linekin Bay around you on three sides. It has a gas stove, a sliding glass door to the upper deck, and a king-sized bed that can be converted to two twins on advance request, if you prefer. The middle or front bedroom has a queen bed, from which you can see down the bay, and a door to the upper deck. The third bedroom has two twins that can be put together to form a king when you specify in advance. The view from there is to the head of the bay.

Please see our “photos” page on Seanook’s drop-down menu above for more pictures of bedrooms.

For your convenience we can provide a porta-crib, and a booster high chair with a tray which must be strapped into a regular dining chair.

Available for you to borrow after signing our release are our personal two-person sit-on-top kayak and two single kayaks, ready for fun exploring Linekin Bay.  We store them on the north beach for easy access to the water. You must share them with the guests at Paradise Cottage.  We provide life jackets that are required by law to be worn on the water.
